Dhillon, Bakshi honoured by Punjab government on 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak


India's honorary consul in Auckland, Bhav Dhillon, is one two Kiwis honoured by Punjab government on the occasion of Sikh leader Guru Nanak's 550th birth anniversary.

Dhillon was one of two New Zealanders chosen by the Punjab government, the other being National Party list MP Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi.

​The Punjab government has released a list of prominent Punjabi industrialists, business people, legal luminaries, philanthropists, artists, writers and politicians figure from all around the world to acknowledge their achievements.

"It is a great honour to be included in this list released by the state government of Punjab at this momentous occasion," Dhillon said.

"The fact that this list has been released to mark the occasion of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Ji gives us more inspiration to work continuously for the betterment of everyone in whatever capacities we can."

Dhillon and Bakshi join the elite list that includes the likes of the former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, five-time Chief Minister of Punjab Prakash Singh Badal, Congress leader Kapil Sibal, economist Montek Singh Ahluwalia, economist and journalist Arun Shourie, and Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had felicitated all the luminaries, many of which travelled from all around the world on Sunday, November 10, at Punjab Technical University, Kapurthala, as part of the ongoing celebrations to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.

In New Zealand yesterday, celebrations were held at Sikh temples around the country to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikh religion.
